Assembly vs merged parts (mental model)
Assembly (grouping)
  • Keeps multiple parts linked as one logical unit
  • You can still select parts inside the assembly
  • Great for organizing complex models (like multi-part prints)

Merged part (fusing geometry)
  • Combines selected parts into one object
  • After merging, you generally lose part-level selection
  • Useful when you need a single printable object or to simplify the object list
Sub-merge vs merge into single part
  • Sub-merge: keeps a parent/child structure so parts stay identifiable under one node.
  • Merge into single part: fuses geometry into one part.
  • Fix Model: attempts to repair manifold issues and mesh problems.
Rule of thumb

Use assembly/sub-merge when you may need to tweak parts later. Use merge into single part when you want “one object, one outcome.”

Where to find it

Right‑click an object in the Objects list (or on the plate) to see assembly/merge options.
